Convertible Car Seat Reviews
Graco Nautilus Matrix (3-in-1 Convertible Car Seat)
Graco’s Nautilus Matrix is a 3 in 1 multi-mode Car Seat that will serve you for a long time (when your child is 20 pounds all the way up to 100 pounds).
So, you can use it for you child all the way up to around ten years of age.
It comes with an extended 5-point harness for children between 20 to 65 pounds. When they grow a bit older, it works as a high back booster for children between 30 to 100 pounds. You can also use it as a backless booster for children between 40 and 100 pounds.
It has a durable steel-reinforced frame, 3-position recline and cup holders for your child.
Some customers have noted that the strap might be a little tight in the crotch area – it’s simply due to a misunderstanding. Here is a quick fix: Move the crotch strap to the second slot. Just make sure you are using the second slot in the hard plastic base, not just the second slot in the fabric insert. Then you should be good to go.
It’s currently on sale for around 200 bucks. Read customer reviews here.
Note: Graco just came out with a new version of Graco Nautilus, called Graco Nautilus 65 LX, priced at around 150 bucks. Click here to read customer reviews for the Graco 65 LX.
Diono Radian RXT Convertible Car Seat
The Diono Radian RXT Convertible Car Seat is a bit pricey, but a great alternative to Graco Nautilus Matrix.
It accomodates a rear-facing child between 5 and 45 pounds, forward facing 20-80 pounds and the booster all the way up to 120 pounds. It has one of the highest rear-facing weight limits (45) – so you can keep your child in rear-facing position for much longer (if you want).
It’s fully steel framed – making it one of the safest car seats available in the market.
It’s pretty narrow compared to other comparable car seats – you can easily fit 3 across the backseat in mid-sized vehicles. You can also fold it flat for travel.
I’ve gotten two carry straps for the seat so I can wear it as a backpack. This makes the weight easier to bare, is better for your back and keeps your hands free.
Note: Diono just came out with a new version of Diono Radian RXT, called The Black Mist.
It’s available for around 250 bucks. Click here to read customer reviews of the Diono Radian RXT Convertible Car Seat, Black Mist.
Britax Marathon Verve ClickTight Convertible Car Seat
The Britax Marathon ClickTight Convertible Car Seat comes with the easiest ClickTight installation system which ensures that anyone can install the car seat securely and confidently by just buckling the seat belt.
One of the great things that I like about Britax Marathon is that Britax incorporated a steel frame along with a semi-flexible base that seems to better absorb impact energy away from the toddler. Other manufacturers usually try to compensate it with adding almost too much padding.
It comes with a 12-Position harness and 2-position buckle that allows you to easily move the harness upward and buckle outward to accomodate your growing child. The 7-position recline helps you easily adjust for your child’s comfort while ensuring the most secure installation angle for your vehicle.
Despite ease of installation, this is a solid, heavy seat. If you plan to swap regularly between your cars, you will want to look at our next car seat discussed below.
4. Evenflo Tribute LX Convertible Car Seat
The Evenflo Tribute LX Convertible car seat has everything you need from a car seat for a very reasonable price.
You can easily adjust the 5-point harness from the front of the car seat, so you can easily get your child in and out.
The recline is very easy. You just flip a knob underneath the seat – flip it forward for rear-facing, and flip it backwards for rear-facing.
It comes with 4 Shoulder harness positions and 2 crotch buckle positions to accommodate growing children longer.
The Evenflo Tribute LX Convertible Car Seat does what you need it to do without paying for a bunch of extra bells and whistle. It’s perfect if you are constantly switching between multiple vehicles.
It is on sale for around 60 bucks. Click here to read customer reviews.
Disney APT Convertible Car Seat
The Disney APT Convertible Car Seat is designed for children between 5 and 40 pounds and 19″ to 43″ in height.
It accomodates rear-facing between 5 and 50 pounds and forward facing 22-40 pounds. It comes with with five harness heights and three buckle locations.
It’s ridiculously cute, snuggly and comfortable. The mouse-ear head rest keeps heads extra cozy, and the silhouettes in the pink fabric help make the ride fun and comfortable.
2 integrated cup holders are not that great but get the job done. Some people have trouble attaching the ears. There are two liitle black flaps on the back of the ears are two little black flaps. Push the flaps through the seat belt holes (above the shoulders) on the car seat cover and then through the actual car seat. And, you’re all set.
